Most ductwork is either fully or partially constructed with 1 1/2 inch fiberglass ductboard. During the manufacturing process the fiberglass particles are compressed and then treated with a resin to hold the microscopic particles. After years (8-10) of withstanding hot/cold extremes in your attic, the resin deteriorates and fiberglass particles are released into your home everytime your AC system turns on. Try this test -- wipe your finger over a peice of furniture under a vent and go outside and look at it in the sun. If the "dust" has a yellowish color and has some sparkles to it the probability is that it is fiberglass.

These pollutants include fiberglass, dust, and mold; all of which irritate the respiratory system, They can also create a negative pressure in your home and draw combustion gases into your home from fireplaces and wood stoves, and garages.
